Unpaid time off

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I work nights, I've asked for 3 nights off in july at work. I work a week on week off and am treated as full time employee. However I asked how much money i would lose having these 3 nights off what they have done is calculated my wage divided by 14 nights as the wage i would get paid per night. Should it not be the wage divided by a month as I'm a full time employee?? otherwise i lose out on quite a lot of money. Thanks

    I'm not sure but this might be related to the fact that you don't have to ask for time off when you are not working? Someone else will be along with more knowledge I'm sure.

    If you're a full time employee you get a holiday allocation which must be at least 5.6 weeks (I'm not quite sure how that's calculated for someone who works 1 week on, 1 week off). Why wouldn't the three nights off be taken from that allocation?
  • To clarify, you work 5 days then have 9 days off?

    Second point, do you get paid overtime?

    My gut feeling is that you should loose (monthly salary/days worked each month)xdays off. However it depends on the specifics as jazzyman asked & if you are paid a monthly salary or an hourly/daily wage
  • hi, no i work 7 nights on 7 nights off. i've clarified it and they have taken my gross wage and divided by 12, then divided by 14.something which will be the number of actual days i work x days i want off as you say above. I think it's probably fair enough. holiday wise I get 14 days of holiday that i can choose (ie 2 x 7 day shifts off) which again i'm happy with as I really only work 26 weeks anyway! (without hols), my 2 weeks allocation is already used up as getting married and is for honeymoon. Thanks

    Your holiday is wrong.

    For a 7 on 7 off that's an average of 3.5 days per week.

    So if regular full timers get 28 days you are entitled to

    3.5 * 28/5 = 19.6.

    as for reduced pay for unpaid leave.

    52 weeks is 13 - 4 weeks periods so the correct reduction for 3 days unpaid is
    (salary/(13*14))*3 = 0.0164835

    they are taking

    (salary/(12*14))*3 = 0.0178571

    Which is £17.74 per £10k pay more than they should.

    (can someone double check please)
