Soft Food for the dentally challenged

Options
Hi, my mother had had a tooth infection which means she had to have several teeth removed by the dentist, and it will take several weeks before they can give her some new dentures.

She's finding it hard to eat her normal food, because she doesn't have enough teeth.

Has anyone got any ideas for meals which are 'soft', which are good for people who don't have enough teeth?

Obviously soup is a good one (aslong as its not too hot)
Steamed white fish with mash and parsley sauce.
    Stew and mash
    Risotto
    Any kind of milk pudding

Jelly was a god send when i had my teeth done last year

    Hi

Your poor Mum hopefully she will not be in too much pain for too long.:(

As for foods probably the best things would be.

    Scrambled eggs.
Soups bread could be dipped in to make it soft.
Pasta cooked softer than usual with cheese sauce
mashed potatoes with cheese sauce or gravy
    ice cream
    yoghurt / fromage frais
    tinned semolina, custard etc
    porridge with mashed banana
cereals that soften easily such as weetabix

If it is only for a week or two then not having a large amount of fruit and vegetables in her diet won't do too much harm but she can get these by making blended soups and smoothies etc.

Hope this has helped a little bit :)

Also if she wants something fruity... baby food desserts are quite yummy and quite nutritious
  • I've had the same problem, generally I could manage to eat most well cooked food I just had to avoid food like rice, mince, even scrambled eggs - it wasn't so much about chewing as the food particles getting stuck in the cavity. I had a terrible job with one grain of rice, neither my tongue or toothbrush could get it out - resorted to a darning needle cause it didn't have a sharp point :rotfl::rotfl:

things like bolognese and chilli made with mince work OK too - no real need to chew those as its already broken up. remembering to take small spoonfuls rather than trying to eat too much at once should also help.

My mum avoids anything to crispy or chewy because of her teeth. Her favorite foods are soup, quiche (you know bought ones have quite soft pastry) and the insides of jacket potatoes, with butter and cheese or beans

I have had terrible trouble with my teeth over the years and have survived on:

    Cauliflower cheese
Any of the Batchelor's pasta and sauces
    Soups
Roast Dinners with plenty of gravy, mashed up well with a fork or put in the blender for a few seconds to a consistency that is right for your Mum......... not appealing to the eye but very tasty (Just think HM baby food)
Casseroles served with mashed potatoes, mushy veg such as overcooked brussels, broccoli etc
Crustless quiche basically quiche without pastry - just use some grated cheese as a base
Porridge with honey, jam, bananas, cooked apples, syrup etc
Baked Apples with custard or cream
    Creme Caramel
    Yoghurt
    Banana custard
    Blancmange
    Semolina
    Tapioca
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. You've all been very helpful. I've passed them on to my mum.
