in Cutting tax
Hi all,
This is my first post on MSE, and hopefully you guys can shed some light on the matter for me.
I'm currently living in the Isle of Man (where I am resident, and have been for the past 11 years). I finished studying pharmacy at university couple of years ago, in Sunderland. In order to qualify as a pharmacist, I have to do a pre-registration training year, which I did in Newcastle, and for which I was paid £21,000. I sat the exam, and am now a qualified pharmacist. I immediately moved back home to the Isle of Man, and have been working as a pharmacist.
My question: Can I reclaim part of the tax which I was paying at UK rates, as technically, I have always been an Isle of Man resident, and only studying in England?
How would I go about doing this?
Thanks for you help in advance!

If you have income arising in the UK then it is subject to UK tax at the usual rates no matter where you are resident. You also get the usual personal allowances etc.
There are one or two concessions for non-residents that dont apply to the type of income you had, but if you were in the UK for a year studying/working/getting paid you were resident during that time any way.
So I dont see how you could be eligible for a refund on the tax unless perhaps your PAYE code was incorrect, and/or you could perhaps claim two years' personal allowance assuming the payments extended over two tax years.0
