JSA and Tax Rebate

Just wondering if anyone can advise on this as I can't seem to get the correct answer from anyone...I was made redundant in September last year and signed on mid October. I've been offered a job and start next Wednesday, so phoned to sign off for good. I'm due quite a substantial tax rebate from my previous employment, do the benefits office pay may tax rebate directly into my bank without me doing anything? I assume I don't need to wait until the end of the tax year?
The HMRC website does say that it will be paid from the benefits office, but when I spoke with them when signing off they had no idea....
Cheers

You wont get a tax rebate until the end of the tax year, if you have signed off before then your best bet is to contact hmrc in april.0 -
When you were made redundant in September, when were you paid up to.
JSA is taxable income,
Your new job will also be taxable.
You need to take your p45 from the job centre to your new job or fill in a p46 when you start.
What makes you thin that you are due a tax rebate.
Any tax adjustment will come through your new employers payroll dept.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

My last wage was August 15th last year, left work 1st September. I gave the job centre my P45 when I signed on, they are now sending it back to me as I have closed my claim. I'm due a tax rebate as I only worked part of the tax year (April-September), but my tax was worked out for the whole year (I was with my last employer for 5 years)0 -

Think youre probably reading this wrong.
You havent worked only part of the year.
All your income is counted towards the year.
Your income from your last job
Your JSA
Your new job wages
All this is added up to 4th April 2013
Then its worked out whether you are due a tax rebate.
If you are under the impression that you will get all your tax back from the old employment, youre in for a bit of a shock.
If yu can give figures from both your P45s (one from your last employer and one from job centre) and what you earn in your new job, someone could work it out for you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Like said here you will get the Tax rebate when starting a new job at the new job. You may find that maybe for one month or longer (if you say its substantial) you do not pay any tax. If however you were not starting a new job you would get the refund sometime after April this year as you haven't worked for the rest of the tax year from leaving the last job.Just wondering if anyone can advise on this as I can't seem to get the correct answer from anyone...I was made redundant in September last year and signed on mid October. As has been said without details of earnings jobseekers payments and tax paid cannot say if tax rebate is due but if it is then what happens with regard to payment will depend on what tax details are known to the job centre. If the job centre holds a cumulative tax code for you then a tax rebate if due will be paid to you after you sign off, I believe to the same account as your benefit was paid and a new P45 will be issued to give to your new employer with up to date tax code, pay and tax details. If the jobcentre do not hold a cumulative code for you then no tax rebate will be made and a non-cumulative tax code will be issued on a new P45 to give to your new employer. This new P45 will advise the tax office where you now work and they will eventually issue a cumulative code along with pay and tax details to enable your new employer to make any tax rebate if it is due.0

Hello,
I've actually been in a similar position. I was made redundant in September 2010, signed on until March 2011, then got a temporary job until October 2011.
I did get a tax rebate after April 2011, it actually finally came through, direct from the Tax office by cheque, sometime during July 2011. You have to push for it and be rather patient.
But as it has been said you havn't finished earning yet for the tax year, you may go onto earn a susbstanial wage and therefore not be due anything back.
My earnings for the period were made up of full time employment from April 2010 to September 2010, then JSA from September 2010 to March 2011, then full time work from March 2011 to April 2011.
This is how I understand the situation from my experience.:)0
