Self Assessment: car purchase for part business use

Hello again

I'm sure this is an FAQ, but whenever I search for answers, every situation is slightly different, so I feel it best to ask for myself to be sure of my facts...

I am self-employed and drive around a lot to different clients. Bought a car last year, and sold my old one on Ebay.

Use my car for business and personal, but most mileage goes on business. I claim for mileage at the 40p rate.

How do I factor the car purchase and sale in my Self Assessment?

Any help much appreciated.

  • You don't.

The 40p per mile claim is designed to cover all costs, including the capital cost of buying the car. So there is nothing to claim in addition to this.
