Cooking With Breast Milk Instead of Dairy Milk

One of my vegan friends posted this on my Facebook wall.

(Remove the [X]s. The board won't let me post links. @_@)

It got me thinking. My wife is currently nursing. We often end up with a lot of spare milk.

Has anyone used breast milk as a cooking product to save money? It sounds weird on first sight...but I dunno.

Yeah it comes down to having TONS of spare milk in the freezer and not knowing what to do with it.

You CAN cook with it but bear in mind it's a lot sweeter than cows milk, in fact it's almost syrupy.

Just as an aside - My babbies were formula fed but the SMELL of the formula used to make me gag, especially first thing in the mornings! Yet Breast milk smells inoffensive. I wonder how babies cope who do mixed feeding? One feed they're getting sweet, nice smelling boob milk, next feed they're getting stinky, powdery formula :rotfl:

Why not cook with it? Surely it is full of nutrients.
It may be worth asking a local maternity hospital if they can use any spare milk or can put you in touch with a local 'milk bank'. I think there are some around that will take breast milk as long as the baby is less than 6 months, due to nutrient value. Maybe look on netmums.
There may not be anywhere that will take milk that has been in the freezer due to the fact that they can't be sure on how well it has been stored. I think it's worth asking.

    remember the news story?

complaints by the bucket load - from men about it ; even after they proved its healthier than milk from a bottle.

You can donate it to Special Care Baby Units. That's what my wife did (40 litres of it I think) and it was very fulfilling.

I think it would be worth a go for you and your immediate family.

I would be very upset though if someone fed me or my family something made with breast milk without my prior knowledge.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

I don't see why not. Tried to access some sites (Google "breastmilk recipes"...returns a few hits) but they are blocked here as 'pornography'

I'd use Green & Blacks rather than Dairy Milk for cooking with anyway...
