Freelance admin, how much would you pay?

Hey everyone, looking for a little advice/opinions. I've got a strong background in office administration, working in numerous roles for the past 12 years, gaining various qualifications along the way, I have decided I would like to put these skills to use by setting up ony own and becoming a freelance administrator. the plan is to offer a range of office/administrative duties to small businesses who can often struggle to keep up with their paperwork duties. Most work will be done from my home, with visits to clients premises where necessary. just need to get an idea of how much people may be willing to pay. Any help/advice welcome. thanks x

    156 Rupees an hour. Seriously
  • What you are suggesting is known popularly as a 'virtual assistant' in case you didn;t know the 'technical term' and were struggling with market research. They're getting more popular actrually, especially in the recession and for small businesses where they can;t afford to risk employing someone.

Most charge between £7 and £30 per hour. I thin those at the lower end really struggle to a) make a living and b) get people to tak ethem seriously - even in this industry the saying is you get what you pay for!

I know a couple of VAs and one charges £18 per hour, the other £25 per hour. Both do discounts for retainers and long term contracts.

HTH ps google virtual assistant - loads of resources for the Uk now! Only word of warning is it;s becoming so popular a business that there's loads of them now, so differentiate and specialise where possible!

Thanks for some real advise basscadet, I'm kind of half way on the road to my aim, know a few small business owners who want my help, just need to figure out costs etc. thanks again x
  • A lot will depend on what services you can offer, how seamlessly you can operate etc.

If within the space of two hours you can have a call to do a job, connect to a VPC and transcribe the recording of an hour long meeting into a formal minutes and actions log you can charge a lot more than if you require them to convert the recording into something you can play on your PC then have to have it posted to you as itll be too big to email and then you need to ask for a template as you dont know how to layout minutes or action logs etc etc

The few VAs I've had dealings with charged between £10 and £25 an hour but those at the top end tended to have additional skills (eg multilingual etc)
