A relative was always paid weekly state pension .
The relative died a couple off months ago .
They died on A Sunday and received a pension payment on The Monday.
I assumed this was paid in arrears .Now SS have asked for it back .

For people who reached State Pension age before 6 April 2010, state pension payments
generally began from the pension payday on or following the day they reached State Pension
age. Pension payday is normally Monday. Payments are made in advance, if paid weekly,
and in arrears if paid four-weekly or less frequently.
The rules changed for people reaching State Pension age from 6 April 2010. A payday is
now allocated according to the final two digits of the customer’s National Insurance number.
Payment is weekly, fortnightly or four-weekly in arrears. There is a new part-week payment
for people who move onto the state pension from a working age benefit and there is a gap
until the start of their first full benefit week for State Pension.0 -
Weekly state pension (if it was paid prior to April 2010) is paid in advance. I'm afraid, the DWP is entitled to claim the payment back, as the new week begins Monday morning.
Had your relative made it to Monday 0:01 h, it would have been there to keep.0 -
Thanks for reply's .Looks like I will just have to pay it back . The SS did pay me the winter heating allowance after she died ,they said I /she was entitled to it .
I suppose what the SS give with one hand they take back with both ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0
