Limited company registered office - advantages?

I'm looking at starting a limited company for a small business I run at home, and am wondering whether I need a registered address or not.
Is there any particular advantage to having a registered address, or does it just look good on a letterhead?

If you have a limited company, it will need a registered office, although that could be your home address. Do you mean should you sign up with someone who provides a registered office address service? It does look more professional, but it also costs a certain amount of money, so it depends a lot on what type of business you are setting up, and what your turnover will be etc.
