Jobseekers Allowance interview - what information is required

Hi all,

Unfortunately I'm in a position where I've had to make an application online for JSA. I have received the text summoning me to the initial interview, however the text aslo says "remember to bring the information requested". But I haven't been told what information/documentation is required.

I've tried various phone numbers that I found online but they all end up at there recorded system. I've also tried google without any success.

The only things that I can think of that they might need are passport, P60, name and address of employer.

Does anyone happen to know what they will require me to bring to the interview or could you point me at a website that contains this information.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

  • I have no idea, but this is what I would take in addition

    - recent utility bill if you have one with your name and address on it (they will be keen to prove address, and IIRC this isn't shown on passport)
    - CV
    - a book to read while you wait for them to get their act together :p

If you have made any recent job apps, and have a copy of them, you might as well take those as well. You want to come across as someone who is organised and keen to get a job! :D

It will have said in the email they sent you confirming your application.

If it is your very first interview you will need two forms of identification (so passport and driving license.)
If you said in the online form that you had a student loan you will need to bring proof of this ie letter from the student loan company (you don't say how old you are, this might only be if you took one out in the last couple of years, can't remember)
    Proof of address

That being said, it's not hard to call them - -0845 604 3719 , yes you get a recorded message to start with but select the option you need and you get put straight through to someone.

my husband had to do one of these last week,It tells you on the email or printout what you need for your situation.e.g. I am a student so they wanted to see proof of studying and any financial help. What is needed for each person is different depending on what your circumstances is,but you will definitely need a couple of id proofs.

    Hi everyone,

Many thanks for all your replies. I appreciate it.

Unfortunately I opted not to have an email confirmation so I didn't get the information that would have been on it.

    @starrybee
I know it's not that hard to call them, I said in my original post that I tried several numbers. What I didn't say however was that even though I chose the appropriate options each time from their recorded system, I just kept getting passed to another tier on their system, very frustrating.

    I'll take the following
2 forms of ID, probably driving licence and passport
proof of address in the form of a recent utility bill
    P60
    Employer name and address
    CV
    proof of job apps
and a book - thanks jobbingmusician for this idea

that ought to do it, if they want anything else I can get it for them.

    Many thanks for the help.

Hi, Just wanted to add, not to take your council tax bill as proof of address. I took mine as somewhere it does say you can take this. What it didn't say (or I didn't see it) is that whatever you take must be within the last 3 months. Fat lot of good on a yearly bill.

Take copies of your bank statements too along with any share certificates you might have.

I had to start signing on at the beginning of October and because I had been self employed had to take a whole raft of things:

    My profit & loss sheet/accounts
    Company Formation Certificate
Share Certificates (inc bank shares that earn me nothing)
bank statements for 3 months for both personal and business accounts
    Passport
    Copy of Utility Bill
My UTR number (tax reference number for self employment)
Proof of Class 2 NI Exemption
Proof of Working Tax credits - no longer on these.

I even took a list of the jobs that I had applied for.
