Why not try rentmystorage.co.uk
Its free of charge and helps to connect between both users!
The site is still growing but no harm in leaving your storage advertised as it does not ask for card information anywhere on the site:eek:0 -
..never seen so much spam in just one thread.
It's not just the fact that they are newbies, but also their writing style is surprisingly similar...
My personal opinion is that insurance and HMRC hassle could well outweigh the benefits, but even if they didn't, a good scheme wouldn't need so many 'newbies' posting about it (IYKWIM), as 'regular' MSErs are the first to jump onto any good money-making or money-saving scheme...

Just giving this thread a bump - I'm interested to know if anyone has had any success with it in the couple of years since this thread was started?0

They were on the BBC docu the other night about self-storage, and I was left with the impression they're operating in London only....
Check for yourselves, it's probably still on iPlayer - latter half of the prog.0 -
Thanks googler. Someone else has sent me a link for that programme, so I'll have a look.0

Part of my loft is used to store the possessions of somebody who used to rent one of my bedrooms - and I don't charge him anything for this. Hence my interest.
Although this looks like an easy chance to make money, I'd be very worried about questions like this:- How do you know what somebody is storing in your property? There could be illegal items such as drugs or weapons hidden in the boxes. What if the police search your house and find this? What if there is a dispute over ownership of the drugs? I wouldn't want to get mixed up in that kind of thing.
If I was looking to store my own possession in somebody else's house then I would be concerned about:- What happens if your stuff gets lost or damaged? What if the roof blows off in a storm?
- What if your stuff damages their property - e.g. something leaks and causes a stain?
- If someone is renting out part of their loft for £10 per week then maybe they have money problems. What if their house gets repossessed or they get evicted (if renting)? What if the bailiffs come round and take your stuff, assuming it belongs to the occupant? What if they're SO desperate that they sell your stuff?
It's all very well to say you have a contract, but how are you going to enforce it? How could you even prove what was in the boxes?
If people know each other then fair enough, but otherwise I urge anyone considering this to exercise extreme caution!
As a storage company owner I am only too aware of the pitfalls !.........getting people to pay is always a problemVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

I've been using a competitor to storemates for over a year and it's been great for me.
Stashbee
Have had maybe 4 or 5 different people storing things for different lengths of time in my spare room.
Never had any issues, and everyone who's wanted to store items has been really friendly and easy to deal with.
I get ultimate say on whether or not I'm ok with someone storing stuff, and can generally tell if someone isn't worth taking the risk on (e.g. if they're slow to respond to messages).
Stashbee takes the payment 1 month in advance and then pays me at the end of the month.
I haven't yet experienced the issue of people stopping their payments.0
