Help with pension/ redundancy question please....

Hello all
I am hoping someone out there knows the answer to my question.

I was a civil servant in the central region who at the end of maternity leave asked if i could take volantry redundancy. The reason I asked is because my husband had a letter asking him if he would like to take it. We obviously live at the same address and did exactly the same job for the same department. However, he works in the welsh region. I was told no ....the regions are seperate but people from the welsh region had been working at the same place as me . My husband regulary goes now.
There are reduncies in the welsh region again it got me thinking as I just accepted what I was told last time.
I am told that they are making upto ten years on the pension on top of the payout.

Finally the question........should I take on my company for not allowing me to apply for redundancy and do I have any chance of claiming pension and payout?

I have a young family so any help with advice will be gratefully recieved as Ii probably wont be able to work for a couple of years.
Thank you for your patience.

p.s I had to give up my job last June.

  • I work for local government in wales. Whilst schemes may be similar they do differ, but voluntary redundancy as I understand it is at the discretion of the employer.
If it wasn't, what would happen if all the binmen could take redundancy at the same time - no service.

Voluntary I think means on both sides i.e. both sides have to agree to it. I can't see a lot of mileage in you contesting it, after all they usually invite applications without any guarantee that it will be granted, it depends on the circumstances.
