should I stay self employed?

I was self emoployed for the last 18 months, and now I have been given a job and am employed. my job is secure untill about may, then it will depend on if the company wins another contract or not.

in april I plan on un registering self employed, and stop paying class 2 national insurance, if I do that and i lose my job, i will be able to sub contract for a company i know , but will HMRC take the pi55 with my UTR number for 3 months like they did last time?

other option is keep paying class 2 NI, and then apply to get it back as i will have earned below the threshold for class 2 and will have been paying class 1 the whole time anyway. is it easy to get this money back, or do they take the pi55 with this as well and make it an incredibly long and hard process??
