Dental plans

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had some advice on picking a dental plan. I've not been to the dentist for a long time as it's just sooo expensive. Getting an NHS dentist is a nightmare down here in the South West - but that's another whole thread!

Companies like HSA do plans, but I'm not sure if i'll be getting stung if I was to take one on.

Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks,
Steve

    Hi Steve,

Most worthwhile plans require you to be dentally fit before starting. (You'd never get car insurance as you sat beside your upturned burning wreck on the motorway!!).

Get a dentist and it sorted out NOW (It don't get cheaper if you leave it ;) ) then ask your dentist which plan he recommends.

    Keep smiling!

    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Are there any plans available for someone on benefits? ... and would a private dentist take on someone on benefits if they agreed to pay for the work done?

The only dentist in my area doesn't take NHS patients (unless it's an emergency and they are on the rota that day) and the nearest NHS dentist is 20 miles away (impossible for me to get to unless by taxi which would cost iro £80 return) but they're not taking on new patients anyway

I really need to have some work done on my teeth, as two are broken and likely to cause problems at some point in the future, and the rest are deteriorating through lack of dental treatment. I've already had a good deal of root canal work done previously, and several extractions, so there aren't that many teeth left to treat! ;) ... but unless I can get to see a dentist regularly I fear losing them all completely :(
