Hi,
I have bought some of the broth mixes recently (peas, lentils, etc etc). The instructions on the pack all say to soak or boil for so long, however, I plan to do mine in the pressure cooker to save time/money, and I know that I don't need to soak them for so long, if at all.
I guess what I'm really asking is what would be the best way to cook them in the pressure cooker?
This is what I have bought (well that and a different make, but all with similar instructions and ingredients)

Many thanks in advance. I've made normal soups in my pressure cooker and cook a lot of meals in it, and love the reduced time and energy usage!

Are there marrowfat peas in the broth mix?
When I make veggie soup I throw in red lentils, yellow split peas and pearl barley, none of which I soak beforehand, and 10-12 minutes at full pressure cooks them perfectly. If there are marrowfat peas you'll probably need to go a bit longer - try 20 minutes, release the pressure and see if they're done. If not, try another minute or two. I wouldn't bother pre-soaking and you don't need to boil them before bringing the pressure up, as you would with kidney beans.
I love my pressure cooker too0 -
Brilliant - thank you!
I got a case of them off Approved Foods - 4 packets for £1, so nice cheap soups, just didn't want to spend a lot of money on electric cooking them!!
That's something to try this week then - I love thick soups in the winter - really warming!
My pressure cooker is one of the best presents I've gotten for Christmas, I use it so much! My favourite dish at the moment is chicken with rice and herbs - so tasty and soooo simple!0
