Been doing Slimming world and always seem to be at the supermarket!
Payday was Friday and went shopping then and again today, already spent the weeks food money.
Never seem to get down to the last tin in the cupboard or the last thing in the freezer, does anyone?
Been trying not to buy rubbish for a bit, so don't think I have anything which is really faterning in.
Can I do it and not shop til the cupboard and freezer is bare?
Having stir fry tonight, with meat from freezer and noodles from cupboard, stir fry and sauce were 1/2 price, so that's a start.
Help please!

Have never, ever eaten all we own. Nor would i really want to. I tend to freeze veg and fruit when in season, and make preserves similarly, to last till the fruit is back in season again.
Meat we put in there after buying butchered whole or half animals or having a chicken cul here.
Whoopsie hunting is somewhat simialr.....get it while its in season.i.e. reduced.
Good luck winding the cupboards down. D you meal plan? That with a good inventory of the cupboards/freezer would be the way i would tackle it.0 -
I often have to buy different bits and bobs to accompany what is in the freezer. The only time we ever got down to an empty fridge and freezer was when we knew we would be going away for a while but there were still various packets and tins in the cupboard.
I doubt if anyone ever manages to get down to absolutely nothing, but it's good to use up what you have lurking and make meals around those bits rather than buying whole meal ingredients every time.
Eg, I was thinking I had 'nothing in' for a proper dinner, but ended up making 6 mince and veg pasties with some flour etc, few bits frozen veg and about 1/2 cup of mince. Added some mash and gravy and dinner was sorted. Also if I have maybe just one lonely bit of fish that wouldn't feed the whole family even on my meanest days, I use it to make fish cakes.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

I have heard of people on here doing it because they were short of cash and deliberately making meals around what they had so I know it can be done.
I dont stockpile. Personally I think its pointless having loads of food in the cupboards and freezer. I mealplan two weeks in advance and only buy what I need so I do get down to a nearly empty freezer. It works for me but I would not be much good in some kind of disaster situation!
Mealplanning would really help you I think. I found it quite hard to begin with but once I got going with it it became a way of life. Maybe you could start with doing an inventory as lostinrates says then you could incorporate what you have already.0 -
We've only tried to do this when we're moving house, so as not to have to bring food with us from one house to another. It's probably a good idea not to have too much in the cupboards as it's basically money tied up, but equally it's reassuring to have food in the cupboards in case you got ill and didn't really want to go shopping for a while.
It can be very satisfying making meals just from the cupboard/freezer though, I think I'll have to start doing this as my freezer is fuller than usual.
