I'm no expert on the matter, but it seems remarkably simple to me. The other companies listed are there to make money from people - hence why they need brand consultants etc. MSE is just here to save people money, it's therefore pretty hard to have a negative view of the site and the good advice speaks for itself. Whereas with the others, there are plenty of things people don't necessarily like (i.e. handing over money to get the product etc. - no matter how reasonable - will always be negative compared to free).

Martin you have indeed created a monster brand - I say monster because it represents the antithesis of the despair created by ugly corporates and to have taken them on and beaten them into submission as often as you have is already almost of Harry Potter epic proportions

I sadly missed your slot on the Daily Politics today - I think you are right to be exploring such adventures outside your comfort zone. Ultimately it will make your brand stronger.

You may not know who many of your real followers are, but I would imagine that if MSE created a workable downloadable standard application to stand as a Member for Parliament ahead of the next general election which enabled some kind of MSE Towers organised MSE polled pre-selected candidate to stand for each seat as a Monster MoneySavingExpert candidate you'd be PM the morning after the election ... such is the breadth of your brand :money:

Yes Martin, we know you are very pleased with yourself. You're very proud, I can see. But can you please keep this between you and your potential employers and business partners?

Congratulations on your unexpected new status.

Without making the brand issue unnecessarily complex, with any need to employ a whole load of, what I consider to generally be, pretty pointless 'brand consultants', my personal view is that the site owner, from the outset, decided what he stood for and then focused on delivering that service/product to the MSE site users and others. That he has done, clearly, precisely and without waffle.

I think MSE is a great site, but I've just been on the FB page, so many people are asking questions that aren't getting replies - they need to be asking on the MSE forums - maybe they don't know about the forums.
