Anything we say on your fitness to work would be a complete guess. What does your doctor say, have you been issued with a fit note that says whether you can do your normal work? Are you working and off sick or out of work? If the former then you may be eligible for contractual or statutory sick pay (depends on how much you were being paid), if not then I expect you would be looking at a range of benefits that may include some of JSA, HB and ESA.
  • Has the doctor recommended any treatment, pills/counselling etc.? If you're feeling this bad then I hope some steps are being taken to help you.

If you're not currently working and the doctor considers you unfit for work (you'll need to discuss this with them) then they should provide you with a sick note, which you can show to the DSS and they should be able to give you some guidance on which benefits you should claim.

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

  • A lot of people who are depressed find that working lifts their mood. Less time to sit at home stewing over what they think is going wrong in their life.
