Are the amounts these gold buying sites quote for old jewelry generally accurate or is it a headline rate to get you in? I've heard some bad stories. Are there any particularly reputable firms?

If you know the weight and carat what could alter the value that is put on the gold?

Best place to sell your gold, best price, best everything. There is a huge HGM thread around somewhere so search for that.

Most "gold buyers" pay well below spot price for your gold, making themselves the huge mark up and not you.

Would 100% recommend them, having recently used them for the first time. Easy to use web site. I weighed my gold on a digital kitchen scale and then registered and entered my details on their website. Sent it off the next day special delivery (you have to pay for this yourself £5.85 I think it cost me) and then by 5pm the next day the money was transferred directly into my bank account.

I was also pleased as I had weighed the gold at 20g and they agreed it was the same on their scales. When you register on site they tell you the exact amount that you will receive (give or take a couple of pounds as the price does fluctuate daily).
