  • I'm doing something similar with my husband!

I've bought him a mug and I'm going to get a jar of his favourite coffee and make him some heart shaped biscuits. The idea is he can open it at around 11am for a coffee break with love as we won't be seeing each other over valentines due to work commitments :-(

If anyone has any good biscuit recipes please feel free to point me in the right direction (I hope you don't mind me piggybacking on your thread glitzz!)

how about baking a valentines cake?

its what im doing for my bf this year - found a heart shaped cake tin in the cupboard so going to use that for the cake, make a victoria sponge, with red colouring. and then icing it, im thinking white icing with pink hearts although thats not decided yet

    cheap and thoughtful

What a lovely idea - it concentrates the thought rather than the cost and makes it all the more personal. :) I quite like the idea of a Valentine's cake but saw a nice idea in the Good Food mag this month - it had a Valentine's Beef Pie in it, with a little pastry heart on the top brushed with poppy seeds. :)

What about making your own jigsaw, and when it's put together it would be heart shaped and think of something nice to write on it.

I'm making a wedding scrapbook for my wife. I've saved some programmes, petals etc. I've got a scrapbook on sale and I just need to print the photos (whichever company is cheapest!) from the wedding disk. We're going to get a professional album done later in the year but I thought I could add how I felt, our vows and some little other bits in this one. I've been saving gift paper, ribbons etc to put inside for a while now.

I think photo coasters would be a great gift too:

Stone Coasters - they are cheap and easy!!!!.

    1) Buy 4 or so plain white tiles (a pound each or less, depending on where from)

    2) Print your photo(s) onto tissue paper to that size; you may have to tape the tissue paper to actual paper and keep it very flat so it goes through.

    3) 'Paint' on the tissue paper with PVA mixed with water and allow to dry and do more coats to seal or spray with a sealant from a craft shop

    4) Optional - attach cork or felt to the back.

Another cheap but lovely gift (I'd think it was lovely) Is to get a big frame then make a family photo collage/relationship collage to display somewhere.

This is a bit 'rustic' but what about handprint ornaments with a date/name on? All you need is flour, salt and an oven!

Or get some glass paint and make a wine glass/beer glass with their name/your names and a special date or quote? You can get a gold glass pen delivered from eBay for ~£3 and I'm sure you can get a glass for two from somewhere, either a single one, a value set or something unusual from the charity shop.

Me and DP are doing the same thing and I came up with the idea of making a chalkboard with our names on the frame as he's always saying he wishes we had a chalkboard so he could leave me little messages. I am however finding that it will be more expensive than I had hoped.

I love some of the ideas on here however DP doesnt really eat sweets or cake so their a bit out. I'm intrigued with the jigsaw idea.
