The Tax Refund Company

I've received a form/letter inside my union magazine from this company, saying that many people have received money back from overpaid tax. Now I thought why not fill the form and see but noticed that it says you get 59p in every pound back, so they must be taking the rest.
Now my question, Is there some other way of checking my tax so that if I'm due a refund I get it all back myself? Any help appreciated.

Phone, or write to HMRC.

This company is the bottom feeders of the "accountancy world" who for very little work want nearly half of your refund.

The usually 'specialise' in flat rate allowance claims for laundry of professional fees or subscriptions. What line of work are you in?

Don't use The Tax Refund Company, arrange with your local tax office to discuss if you are entitled to any tax back.

Yes I can see where your coming from. Im in a gov quango job , careers/ skills type work with unemployed teenagers. I imagine my tax is ok anyway as if mine was wrong im sure other people in the company would have had same problem.

Yes I do to work related stuff.

Sorry didn't mean to be, im a member of CIAG (Careers Institute of Advice and Guidance) I also pay £18 a month to Unison which galls me every time.

Hmm yes iv had that debate with myself for a long time. The only reason I do is that years and years ago when I worked in social work my old boss used to say that in our line you never know when you might need them, I suppose thats a bit outdated now.
