You are probably better off showing your daughter this forum and get her reading and posting here, I've learnt so much in the couple of months I've been reading.

We need to know stuff like how good a cook is she, what food they like/dislike, what is she cooking now, the kinds of shops close by etc.

I agree, Pasta bakes and potato bakes are very filling and easy to put together.
also, shepherds pie, cottage pie, spaghetti bolognese, lasagne, chilli - all filling and leftovers can be used as a lunch or 2nd meal.

    Em how about this:

    Ham hock broth & bread
Ham and mushroom pie with veg
Chilli with rice and nachos (500g basic tortilla chips) think 50p for 250g
    Macaroni cheese and salad
Cottage pie with lots of veg and gravy
Sausage casserole with veg and potatoes

To make the meals more filling maybe have a desert afterwards like apple crumble, semoline, rice pudding. Or even a trifle?
But tell her to add lots bread to bulk it out with.
    Do she like broths?

    How about this:
Well how i cook it anyway:o its my mums recipe

Ham hock (or bacon / gammon) i just buy whatevers cheapest. £1.49
    Country soup mix about 69p
    potatoes
carrots (do 1/2grated and 1/2 chopped)
    onion (sliced)
    swede / turnip (chopped)
    leek (chopped)
    seasoning as required.

Ham hock boiled till cooked - then take out and leave to cool.
Place the juices/ water from the ham hock, in a pan with a packet of dried country soup mix. Add the onions, leek, grated carrot and boil till the country soup mix is cooked.
Add the rest of the veg and seaosning. When the rest of the veg is cooked add some of the boiled to the broth and served when heated.

This does us (2 adults and 2 children) about two sometimes three big meals. It tastes even better warmed up.

Use the leftover ham to make a pie, if still any leftover break into tiny bits and sprinkle over the macaroni cheese.

    Trifile
Basic Jelly (make up as instucted)
    Basic tin of fruit
Basic instant ready made custard (make us as instructed)

Put jelly and fruit in bowl leave to set.
Whilst doing this make the instant custard and leave to cool.
When all cooled place custard over the set jelly and leave to settle. I also add some sprinkles over the top which the boys love.

Hope thats any good for your daughter:)

When the boys need filling up I tend to batch bake loads of puddings and cakes to help fill them up.
Homemade bread is also more substantial.

I bulk buy puff pastry when its on offer and make cheese and marmite straws and apple turnovers.

Cheese and potato pie is one of my favourite fillers, jacket potatoes with just about anything :rotfl: and fruit cobblers are brill for puddings done in the slow cooker.

Theres 4 adults and 1 nearly adult in my house:-
Lots of pasta dishes with chopped up cheap veg and red pesto (use 3 tsps) topped with cheap cheese grated.

Grocery challenge recipe list is excellent - i do the sausagemeat plait from it regularly - if you get the tube type packet of sausagemeat from Asd* and mix with stuffing onions etc I can make two of these (freeze one for following week or slice cold for packed lunches)and have with mash and veg (I buy puff pastry ready made and get a stock in when on offer)
If I have a roast on a sunday there is always enough meat/chicken to make a pie for the next day (make gravy add value frozen veg chuck in leftover meat and make a shortcrust topping) bake in oven for 20-25 mins

Quick quiche with homemade potatoe wedges using value potatoes - homemade shortcrust, eggs, milk, grated cheese couple of slices of bacon or leftover bits of ham or whatever leftover meat you have (I make a pint of liquid with 3 eggs and make up to 1 pint with milk season with salt and pepper) pour into base (don't bother blind baking) cook until set .
Turkey mince/pork mince cheaper than beef mince - use for meatballs - just mix with homemade breadcrumbs made from odd stale bread slices, chopped onions, garlic clove, salt, pepper and any herbs you fancy, cook in gravy and have with mash or use a pasta sauce and have with pasta or rice...........
tinned tuna or salmon when on offer mixed with onions, herbs and spices and left over mash - fry lightly for fishcakes with beans or frozen veg
Veg curry instead of a meat curry - same with lasagne
All old veg used to make homemade soup at weekends
But seriously all of these tips are what I have picked up from the grocery challenge thread it is BRILLIANT:j:T:T
