How to find out whos dealing with a company pension i paid into years ago

Hi there

I worked for a newspaper back in the early 1990's and paid into there company pension scheme. To be honest i'd forgotten about it, howvere about 5 years ago i got a letter from a company called sterling talking about this pension and and stated they would be in contact in due course. I dont know how they got my address i can only assume through my ni number. anyway i am trying to organise all my paperwork and would like to try and trace what has happened to this as I know there was money in it. How do i go about this? The newspaper was taken over in 1993.
