Removing smell of smoke & fust from chest of drawers

Hi everyone,
I am going to use my Father's chest of drawers but he was a smoker and when you open the drawers it smells smoky/fusty.....
I have removed the linings (wallpaper) smell still there but wanted to know if you have any tips on removing the smell?
Should I put new linings and air freshners in (if so what type etc)
Thank you

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda in the bottom of each drawer, then screw up wads of newspapers and put them in the drawers. Close the drawers back up and leave them a few days, hopefully that will do the trick!0

When we had a house fire the cleaning company used lots of lemon scented cleaners, even just sprinkling over the floors and leaving it - it worked eventually.
Could try wiping the wood with a lemon essential oil.0 -
I've been cleaning up some older bits of furniture and have taken the drawers out, used a 50/50 mix of St@rdrops/water and wiped the inside several times with a well rung out sponge and cloth.
I managed to get the drawers outside on a dry day to air, then replaced the linings once I was satisfied they were dry.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

I used trays of bicarbonate with some lemon oil on. Took a couple of weeks, but worked0

i was given some chest of drawers some year ago and had the problem, i washed the drawers with a solution of stardrops and vinegar then dried them outside in the sunshine, ( could also be sprayed with a solution. careful, dont get to wet, raw wood can swell and warp.
i washed the bulky part outside with a cloth and soapy vinegar mixture, then polished it after with beeswax ( once dry)0
