Employer passed my CV onto someone else

Hello!

Just wanted your opinion on something that happened to me.
I went for a job interview about 10 days ago for a role I was really interested in (and therefore thoroughly prepared for).
In all honesty I did not like myself too much in the interview (was very nervous); 2 days ago I received their rejection email, which (in my opinion) confirmed that I hadn't impressed them.

Yesterday though, someone from a company related to the one above called me, saying that the people who I had the interview with had passed my CV on to them, and now they wanted to see me for an interview (which is going to be on monday).

Now: am I right in thinking that maybe I didn't completely suck and they still liked me enough to pass my details onto someone else? Or did they just send all the rejected people's cvs over to the other company? What do you think?

Sorry for the bizarre question - just wondering what might have happened as I was beating myself up about the first interview so much. :)

Be positive - they liked you but you weren't exactly what the original people were looking for but they could see that the other recruiter might have just the right job for you.

Good luck for the interview on Monday.

Most recruiters will understand that candidates will be nervous (as they will probably be nervous themselves).

Unless these people are extremely bored, there is no logical reason that they would pass on your cv if they did not think that you were a decent candidate and may suit the role that is on offer.

Be positive - and good luck ?

I know you have an interivew out of it but are you not bothered they have broken the data protection by giving your cv/details to a compnay without your knowledge?

to be honest with you - not at all. I really do want (and need) to find a job right now, and have sent out my CV to so many people and places that at this point an employer forwarding my CV to another is probably safer for me than me sending CVs out to unknown recruiters... if it makes any sense?

Actually, I wish they did this more often... :)

Did you apply on-line? It's possible that buried in the T&Cs it says something about passing CVs on?

Also, be careful it's not some dodgy door to door sales arm of said company! Looking to try and catch people they think are "desperate"

awww, no, I've got all the details and job description, too. It's actually a very interesting job. But I appreciate the concern :)

    ps yes I applied online

I'd have a poke around the website with a magnifying glass, alternatively they may just have thought you were better suited for a role with that company than them, in theory they should have asked you first of course, although in this day and age a nice "guesture" like that seems unheard of!
  • You should be very positive about this, there can be a million reasons why you might have been rejected for that particular job. It doesn't mean that there's something wrong with you. Maybe there was something wrong with that job/company/market/time etc. Best of luck with your interview tomorrow, you already seem to have made yourself visible!
