Santander AHGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Does anyone know if you can close an account if you are into your overdraft. Santander are driving me crazy ever since they took over from lovely friendly alliance and leicester. I havent been able to use my bank card for 2 months because they have blacklisted me for no reason... and they dont know the reason and cant reverse it.... arghhhhhhhhhh
They keep sending me new cards but its not the card its a blocked account. I can receive money and transfer it but cant use the card..
Also they now take 5 days to even look into any issue. Nothing can be resolved over the phone. They have no idea what they are doing and apart from the card issue I have 15 outstanding other problems that they are LOOKING into.. however I havent heard for 3 months on these issues. I am well into my overdraft and obvioulsy there is the option of paying it off and then closing but I really dont trust them and want to close it now. I have had £100 removed from my account twice in the last few weeks and santander dont know where its gone!!! before I loose anymore cash is there a way I can close it and perhaps agree to pay off the overdraft on a payment plan? please help???:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
no silly replies please

  • I'd open a new bank account and have everything paid into and out of that - someone not connected with santander, I'm with the co-op and they are brilliant. Then I would contact them in writing fully explaining the situation and that you wish to close the account, but consider the overdraft in dispute until they can resolve where the missing £200 has gone and all the other issues. As it is in dispute you expect no charges to be levelled onto the account until this issue is fully resolved. If this does not happen you will make a formal complaint to the FOS.

I'm not an expert but that's what I'd do :D I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly, it can be quiet on the weekends.

    No silly replies? Dammit! :rotfl:

I agree, open a different account with another bank which is unconnected in any way with your current bank (We're also with the Co-op).
Get your wages paid into the new account, and all direct debits/standing orders paid from the new account. This will mean that the only thing happening with your old, overdraft account is that it's over drawn. If you're then able to pay enough into it so that you're under any charging amount, so much the better.

I agree with the other 2 posters, although if you don't settle the overdraft, they will obviously pursue you for the cash. Lots of people seem to use the co-op for new basic bank accounts, so hopefully it will also suit you.

    Good luck

  • yeah i think thats the best bet. I still cant use my bank card they are seriously !!!!!!.. I cant even be bothered to call them again.
Luckily I still have an old bank account with another bank (barclays bank "the devil of all banks under satans power" PLC so will use that for now and pay off the overdraft with santander bit by bit until its gone.

I am also in dispute with Barclays having had a career development loan with them (all paid off now with no missed payments or problems my end) However they refuse to send me the statements of all of my payments. When I say refuse they dont actuallly refuse but they are not sending them to me dispite 15!!! calls and now a letter (i hope this will work)
Do you think banks are reluctant to send out loan information due to all the PPI claims going on right now.
