Why do you want imaginative expenses?

Either you incurred the expenses or you didn't.
If there are any expenses you have actually and necessarily incurred in the running of your business that you wish specific advice on, list them here with your reasons why you think they may me attributable to the business and I'm sure someone will guide you appropriately.

Buy this book and deduct the cost as a business expense

Not well phrased but I suspect the OP is looking at pushing the outside of the envelope on allowable expenses whereas many accountants or landlords preparing their own accounts may err more on the side of caution.

Sometimes the way that things are structured requires a different mindset to the straight up and down thinker who has done it that way for years and years.

Thank you very much oldtoolie. I'll buy that.

Also property advert, yes you got what I was trying to say!

Premier - are you always so uptight? I am fully aware of the difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance. I was looking for some out of the box thinking. Not many people are capable of it.

  • Why don't you provide some of your own ideas for others to consider rather than just being a sponge on the community.

You were the one that says not many people can think outside the box, were you including yourself in that group?

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

There are already several 'tax on rental properties' threads there, so I think you'd find it worth browsing around there.

What makes you think I'm uptight?

As you say, you claim to know the difference between tax evasion and tax avoidance.

So you'll know what I posted was correct. If you have not incurred the expense, you cannot lawfully claim for it.

I suggest you read my post again, rather than fly off the handle at those trying to offer help.

I did say that if you had some expenses that you didn't know whether or not could be claimed, then post the details here and someone would probably help you.

I will take that as a yes.

Had you been even remotely humble I would have listed every expense I put in my tax return to kick off a few ideas, since you appear quite ungrateful you can look through my posting history to find it if you want it :D
