LGPS Opted Back in - How to transfer previous LGPS to new
musclebeach
hi,
I made contributions to the LGPS for 3 years, opted out, and then a month later opted back in.
Now that im back in, i wish to add the 3 years of contributions i made to the new LGPS. How would i go about doing this?
Is this what is referred to as "transferring your pension rights?"
Thanks.

There are apparently differing opinions on what can and can't be done in your situation, ranging from having to keep them separate to having no choice but to join them together, with having the option to do either in the middle....
Your best bet is to contact the fund administrators explain that you wish to join the two periods of membership together and then follow their instructions - contact details available here
http://www.lgps.org.uk/lge/core/page.do?pageId=99259
repost with more details if you don't get the result you want - i.e. are you in England/Wales or Scotland, are you still in the same job as when you opted out or did you change employer, if you changed employer are you still covered by the same fund etc.
Hope this helps0 -
And do check that the old LGPS wasn't better (ie earlier retirement date, FS rather than average etc) as you may be better off leaving it but we can't be sure from what you have said.0
