GRRR! Still relatively new to this moneysaving lark - once upon a time I'd never check my receipts, I do now, but often forget while actually in the shop. However dug out my receipts to write my expenditure in my little red book - on a side note this thing has been a revelation!:eek:

HOWEVER, on checking my receipt from Clinton Cards - I've found a couple of items on there I didn't actually buy! I was in a bit of a rush and had random shopping bags and handbag I was fiddling with, so didn't give it a second thought when the cashier offered to put receipt in the bag. Now I've discovered I spent nearly 3 pounds I didn't actually spend on cards I know i didn't buy from there.

I'm fuming, and obviously now there's no way I can prove I didn't actually buy them.

    Hi

We had that a few years ago with Woolworths. They put through a swimming costume on the receipt that we only purchased drinks on. Although why OH didnt query the amount at the time (an extra £5) I dont know!!! But he phoned the customer services and explained to them, they said go back to store with receipt and explain and when we did (after a bit of an arguement) we got the money back.

so phone customer services and see what they say. :)

Was it the actual amount you paid? I've had receipts in bags before and it hasn't been what I bought or the price I paid.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
  • I check every receipt before I walk away from the till now. I have no money so I can't be paying for things I don't get but I never used to bother. Until I got charged for two things when I only bought one in the Co-op and didn't notice till I got home. I knew that girl was trouble and I'm still kicking myself for not checking. My own fault and I've learned my lesson. I dread to think how many times it may have happened before.
  • The actual amount I paid was the amount on the reciept, not the amount I should have paid. still kicking myself. tried to get through to customer services but no one "was able to help", think i'll have to put this down to experience or spend another £3 on the phone. hmph.

After reading this post this morning it jogged my memory that I hadn't checked my Sainsbury's receipt from last night.

When I did I couldn't make out what 'MELON YELLOW' could be as I hadn't bought a melon, thought it might be a reference to something like fabric softener or something, then I reaised my LEMON wasn't on there, at £1.97 that's the most expensive lemon I've ever bought!

You'll get nothing more by wasting money calling them. Chalk it down.

I had that at Tesco once a couple of years ago, some kind of jewellery item which I definitely didn't buy for about £5. I took the receipt in the next week but didn't think they would/could do anything. Lovely lady sorted it out straight away and gave me a refund, but what she didn't notice at the bottom of the recipt was 5 or 10% discount off jewellery (and neither did I until I got home!) so I got a little bit extra. I see that as a (small!) payment for the trouble :)

OH only the other week popped to the Co-Op to get a trifle as his grandparents were having tea with us. He was ill bless him and says this is the reason he didn't notice that the lady on the checkout put his 2 multipacks through 4 times - even though he'd told me on the phone 2 minutes previously how much they cost, and they were the only thing he was buying. I took the receipt in 2 days later and was refunded no problem.

It might be worth you popping in to the shop if you're in town and seeing if they can/will do anything about it, you never know!

You have to watch out for the newbies who simply can't identify fruit and veg correctly. I had one dozy checkout girl totally thrown by an avocado once. She didn't have a clue what it was. She wasn't too sure about the leeks either - asked me if they were garlic. !!!!!!?

I took control after that and told her what everything was as she scanned it through, even helpfully telling her that my bag of onions with 'Onions' written on it were onions. Every little helps!

Yes, I should have realised he wasn't too hot on his fruit & veg when he didn't know what the swede was the lady in front of me bought. I'd already weighed and priced the rest of my produce, but the lemon must have thrown him.

I'll take my receipt back next week, you never know, if I don't get the hitler in knickers woman on CS I might get a refund.

Sometimes the scanners pick up other items. I work for a supermarket (small - food only) and somehow a table and 4 chairs were scanned through our system. So outrageous, but stuff like that does happen lol.
