Salary in advert & interview - actual is lower

Hi all,
If a job is advestised at a certain salary + OTE and this is reiterated at interview, is there a way for the employer to actually pay less?
I'm asking this on behalf of someone else - they have started the job very recently but as yet they haven't had a contract.
Thanks

The salary should be made clear when the job offer is made. That salary can be lower than that mentioned previously, it is up to the prospective employee at that point to accept the lower salary or not.0

yes I have been there where one figure was mentioned at interview and then when offered the job the agency told me another figure which was a lot less. It's the salary on the offer, not the interview.Jonesy_McJones wrote: »Hi all,

Thanks for replying.
The only salary that has been mentioned is that which was advertised and at interview. At no point were they offered a different salary, and the actual salary was never even mentioned.0 -
What was in the offer letter?0

There wasn't an offer letter - the offer was made over the phone with a next day start.0

Crazy not to get something in writing.
Write an acceptance letter with the salary, holidays and other basic terms expected from the add/interview.
To start create a paper trail.
If they don't want to pay you don't have a job.0 -
Could have got a quick email off them to confirm the detailsJonesy_McJones wrote: »There wasn't an offer letter - the offer was made over the phone with a next day start.0 -
In answer to the question, yes the employer is fully entitled to do this. Your friend ultimately has the choice to accept or not.0
