Earning money online - tax reduction for server costs?

Hello all

I've just paid my first ever self assessed tax return, following becoming freelance in late 2010.

It's just occurred to me that part of my income, which comes from online marketing, incurs web hosting expenses (because I host the websites myself). Is this something I could offset as a cost against the profits made by those websites, thereby reducing the net profit made on that part of my income?

The hosting costs come to roughly £180.

Does that sound reasonable?

I see absolutely no reason why should not claim this in full.
  • I claim for this and other associated costs too such as domain renewal etc.

Defintely. Also, bear in mind that you can probably claim more than the basic £3 per week for "use of own home" if all this is taking place in your house.
