Save money...start a business?

Hi! I could do with a bit of advice. I know nothing of the business world. I am organizing my upcoming wedding and was horrified at the prices florists charge. I am considering starting a little 'online' florists business of my own so that I can purchase the flowers direct from the wholesaler. The wholesalers are quite strict and want reg. trade no.'s etc. Is it difficult to start a business who's purpose is as a 'one-off' and is it worth the hassle?

Cheaper to go to supermarket and do your own as shown on tv a few months back pr get married in Summer when flowers are cheap :D
  • Maybe you'd get more input on the small business board??

As a starter..... have you worked out what you'll offer and how you'll get the flowers to their buyers? Not something you can send RM I shouldn't think?

You might have to start and then approach wholesalers by going via the supermarket and maybe not making much money to start with.

Do you have funds for stock? Have you researched what others are offering and their costs? How will you guarantee the life of your flowers... I would imagine most buyers have vans to collect fresh from wholesalers.

How far have you got with thinking this through? :)

You could just do your own flowers but I suppose it would depend on how good you are at organising and how much help you'd have with it all.

If you are saying you want to register as a business just so you can get one order of flowers for your wedding then I would say no it's probably not worth the hassle. As someone mentioned above why not just buy the flowers in bunches from a supermarket or a small florist and make the arrangements yourself.

  • If you are having your wedding the day before/after another couple see if you can contact them to split the cost When my grandad got re-married a couple of years ago they did that had loads of beautiful flowers and paid half the price
  • Have you tried just calling the wholesalers and expalining the situation to them and how you want to make a largeish one off purchase, they should be OK with that (my friend did this with our local wholesaler and they gave her a one off order!)
