Come on here and moan again? When he already has an option of selling the property and using the equity to downsize and be mortgage free?

Ah but the maximum rate they will pay is capped, so what does the OP do when the mortgage rate exceeds the government rate?

    Equity release?

  • I wish my mum had the same "worrying" circumstances - she's lived in a council house all her life (she's now 75) and has gone from being surrounded by friendly neighbours to being bullied by druggies and anti-social misfits.

She's never received benefits other than state pension and cannot get any other handouts as my dad worked for the railway for 53 years and left a small pension when he died.

Council house rents are subsidised by council tax payers.

Total non british venefit claimants acording to bbc news was 384000 which was some 2 to 3% of total claiming. ( includes child benefit etc)

I think you have got muddled with your figures.
The BBC article said that the government stated that last year, 6.4% of those of working age and claiming out of work benefits, came to the UK as foreign nationals.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Just an update..Today I telephoned Santander to put my case to them as a general scenario. I was told that it would be possible to extend the mortgage loan untill the age of 75.
At that point I would have to pay the sum owed or sell to do so.
I now intend to see a Santander mortgage adviser to put my case and see the outcome..
Will keep the forum posted on the conclusion

    Thanks again to all contributors

    Thanks for the update sexymax.

Also, apologies that you were often blamed for a comment I actually brought up about your ex not getting a portion of the sale. I don't believe you even agreed that you wanted to remove her, particularly with your added explanation of why she insists of remaining on the mortgage. So sorry for the misunderstandings directed your way because of my comments.

Good luck with your Santander mortgage advisor meeting.
