What would you do?

I applied for a FT job last year, for a new business to the area. Yesterday, I was offered a job, not the department I wanted, and less hours than I had hoped for.

I am currently employed (12 hrs per week, £7.45 per hour) New job (12 hours £6.15 per hour)

So it is a significant hit in wages, but I really want to leave my current employers, and really want to get my foot in the door with this new company, I would have better prospects, and better chance of progressing..but the drop in wages, may be a kicker....

So what would you do?

cant you do both? its only 24hrs combined, still only 2/3rds of a full time job.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • I presume it's not possible to do both for some reason? Possibly the hours clash? It is the obvious answer to do both if at all possible.

If it's an either/or choice, then I would check out just how likely firm 2 would be to "move me up" to a full-time/better-paid job by finding out what had happened to other staff they had taken on recently in this respect if at all possible. If I couldn't find out, then I would stick with Job 1. I wouldn't wish to be at risk of being taken in by false half-promises and finding out I'd given up half my "bird in the hand" for something that might turn out to be a mythical "bird in the bush" if you get my drift.

Following on from the above - would it be possible to do both jobs if only for a fixed time (say a month ?).

If we are in a job that we don't particularly like it is often the case of "grass is greener" with another company.

If you can combine the 2 jobs for a couple of weeks, you might find that you enjoy the new job and it is worth the drop in pay (alternatively you might find that you hate it more than your current job - and not only that, you are also getting paid less !).
