Returning to Work and Benefits

I have been in hospital for the past year or so and will be properly discharged at the end of Feb. I will be looking to return to work around that time. I am currently receiving ESA and someone said to me that I could work and still claim, is this true?

How do I go about returning to work? Do I simply phone the job centre or the benefits place and let them know of my intentions?

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.

  • You can work up to 16 hours a week and claim ESA but be aware that if you do this you're likely to be found fit for work (which you obviously are if you're working) when you go for the work capability assessment.

If you're returning to work for more than 16 hours a week then phone the 0845 number and just tell them you're closing your claim as you're returning to work.
