MPs expenses - Margaret Moran

As the final MP to be prosecuted for fiddling expenses, Margaret Moran was due to stand trial in April (after much delaying tactics).

There was a hearing in December to assess if she was "fit" to stand trial, and since then I haven't seen a thing about it.

Has she managed to get off with it, or is she standing trial?

    From wikipedia:

On 6 September 2011 the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced that Moran would face 21 criminal charges[48] 15 of false accounting and six charges of forgery. She was summoned to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 19 September 2011, duly did and having dyed her hair blonde and made herself up to appear as an old woman she 'cried' throughout the hearing.[49] Moran was committed to attend the Crown Court at Southwark on 30 October 2011; she failed to appear and a 'not guilty' plea was entered by default in her absence. A date for the trial of an issue was set for 18 April with a directions hearing set for 15 December.[50] On 15 December 2011 Mr Justice Saunders was informed that psychiatrists considered Moran unfit to plead, the defence contending that the trial should therefore not proceed.[51] Proceedings were adjourned.

Oh for sure. Unfit to plead my a$$. Well we don't want someone as vulnerable as that wandering the streets.... how about we lock her up for her own protection.... indefinitely.

I wonder how much more public expense has been eaten up with this carry on?

How did this woman ever make it into parliament ? Put her under any sort of pressure and she would clearly crack.

But....my anger is also directed at the department overseeing the payment of expenses. Is there a shred of evidence to show that they sample checked ANY of the receipts submitted to them ?

Perhaps they were just happy to sit in cushy jobs on their fat behinds.

Unfit to plead, but seemingly fit to forge invoices.

Wonder if shes "forging" her illness which only came on when there was no way out of her crime!? ;)

This made me laugh though....2 invoices around the same date, from 2 different places, for the exact same amount :D

They're separate charges for the same incident. The expense claim gets a charge of false accounting and the falsification of the accompanying invoice to support the claim gets a separate charge of forgery. One claim, two criminal offences committed.

Anyone know on what grounds she is "unfit" to go to court?

Well, as a former NuLabour MP, she was, by definition, unfit for anything other than waddling through the lobbies to support Brown.

Where is Cromwell, now that we need him?

It would have been nice to have him in the MPs expenses office, dispensing "instant justice" for dodgy claims.:D
