Taxed pension payments to my non-tax paying sister. What happens now?

Going to follow Jems advice - wait on the first payment & then call.
........... It seems that time is now then as she's just had her first payment.
But .... she did not say that did she?It may be a bit soon phoning today if the pension provider hasn't yet notified HMRC. If you wait until she has had her first payment and payslip then you should have any tax reference details that HMRC may ask for
Which echoes my earlier advice to only ring once Capita have completed the P46. Which you should become aware of when your sister gets a coding notice from HMRC.That would need a call to HMRC once they've issued a code to Capita. I can't see a sensible short cut on thatIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
This isn't totally linked to the Capita Hartshead & pensions thing so i can make a new thread if needs be, but i looked closer at her most recent P60:

We're not talking 6 figure sums here or anything, but is she due that £20 back? Better in her pocket than the tax mans if it should've never been taken in the first place.0 -
The 'Month 1' after the code indicates it's non cumulative. However it's a bit odd as the total pay for the year suggests no tax would normally have been deducted even on that basis. Unless she worked only for a very short period.
However - yes, worth sending off the p60 (original - copy it first) and requesting a refund. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I don't know what she worked tbh. It was like the current tax year though - on & off during school holidays depending on whether she was required or not.The 'Month 1' after the code indicates it's non cumulative. However it's a bit odd as the total pay for the year suggests no tax would normally have been deducted even on that basis. Unless she worked only for a very short period.
However - yes, worth sending off the p60 (original - copy it first) and requesting a refund.
I can't remember exactly when she started. Somewhere to the start-middle i think. I think she worked more last year than she seems to have done this year, but the key word & problem here is: think .... i think, i don't actually know. She's at college at the moment so i can't ask her.
And send off the original P60 to this address.....?H M Revenue & Customs

Could she "2 birds with 1 stone" and just send off the P60 along with a letter regarding the Capita Hartshead pension?0 -
And send off the original P60 to this address.....??
Yes. Bear in mind I have assumed that is her only P60 for 10-11. And that she didn't have another job. Or move jobs but with no P45. In other words - her total taxable income for 10-11 needs to be below £6475 for the refund request to be relevant. Which I assumed is the case from earlier posts.Could she "2 birds with 1 stone" and just send off the P60 along with a letter regarding the Capita Hartshead pension
She could - personally I wouldn't. I would 'phone once you have the Reference for Capita from the P2(Coding Notice) she should get. Splitting her allowance is straightforward - but best done IMO over the phone - and when you have all the data.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Thanks for your help.
Oh and yes, this has been her only job.0 -
Just to check before any letter gets sent off....
The tax deducted of £21.20 is tax-tax and NOT national insurance, correct?
It's just i don't see an entry for NI contributions that i have on my P60.
I don't want her to be sending a letter off asking for the tax to be refunded if it's national insurance money that she can't have refunded.0 -
Yes - it's Income Tax. Not enough earnings for NI - is the likely reason for the NI absence.
Indeed there's not really enough income for tax. Can only assume she was on 'BR' for a while (20% on everything). But the 647M1, when received, would inhibit any refund being made because it simply operates on a non cumulative basis for each individual pay period. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Our of interest, how long do these people tend to take to get back to you?
I realise that they have a lot to process and expecting a reply by now is likely unrealistic, but i'm just trying to find out.
She sent the letter off 1st class the following day - so 24th Jan.0
