Is this normal?
I filled the purple questionaire and sent medical notes from my team of careworkes/gp. I recieved a letter this morning stating I would be in the support group and the amount they will pay etc (Im changing over from being on Income Support)
However no mention of attending a medical, I have just got of the phone and she said that its correct I will be switched over int he next 12 weeks bu wont need to attend a medical assesment as the decision has already been made from the questionnaire and evidence?

It's no unheard of to not need to go for a medical. The medical assessments are for when ATOS/DWP don't feel they have enough information to make a decision.
Based on your form and medical evidence sent they have decided that they have enough information to make the decision so you didn't need to have a medical.0 -
Buy a picture frame big enough to fit yourself in as you are a rare specimen.0

As per MrsManda.... yeah... they carried out a Work Capability Assessment on you but obviously felt that a face to face medical with an ATOS Healthcare Pro was not necessary for fact finding in your case in order to carry it out. They will have used your completed ESA50 and any other medical evidence available (perhaps from former or current claims, that which you supplied along with ESA50 form etc) to take a decision. It's a good outcome. Would be helpful perhaps for you to find out which Support Group descriptor (s) or special circumstances the DWP felt appplied in your case... as I always say... easier to complete a maze for the second time when you've got a map showing how you did it previously..lol"Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

I don't know if the letter they send nowadays explains the details of their decision.. but assuming not then you can request a statement of reasons for the decision (by phone call to number at top of DWP ESA letters) to place you in the Support Gp... it should give technical details of the decision made."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -
I too was awarded ESA without a medical but have been placed into the Work Group rather than the Support Group, which is probably where I should be.0

As a general point, it is probably worthwhile requesting once every year or two, your complete ESA/IB/whatever file, in case you need to refer to it in the future.
This will have all the documents they used to make the decision, and any other evidence.
This is as they routinely destroy old documents that they have no 'business case' for.

Include a request for recordings of any phone calls too!0 -

It doesn't yet - all letters which get sent out from Monday will do so, but those that have gone out beforehand won't.
The OP can request it though, it will be given freely and quickly.0 -
Thank you I will request it0
