and a little break from the norm....
***Lashley's factoid for the day****
The 22nd January 1927 saw the first ever radio broadcast of a commentary of a live football match. The game was Arsenal v Sheffield Utd and the game finished 1 all. Various periodicals at the time, including the Radio Times featured a diagram of pitch divided up into numbered sectors, in order for the commentator to give the listener a clearer picture of where the ball might be on the pitch.
It is thought that this was where the saying "back to square one" originated

seems like you've got it all planned.
do you have a meal plan for your lunch? maybe a little note book of every day planned spend is needed, i used to do this, write what i had to spend that day ( postage, phone top etc) and what i actually spent that day, added it up against what money i had free from the budget and see where i could improve it, would also take out just that amount i needed so i wouldnt spend any more.
regarding leaving your lunch at home, my brother in law used to do this almost every day so my sister puts a note on the door handle saying 'go back and get your lunch' it seems to be working lol.0 -
So i thought I'd go the tesco's express and get the meal deal there as at £2.50 its the cheapest. The bloody self serve wouldn't register my food as a meal, and i still have no idea why. The only girl on the other checkout was pretty much useless so it was the decision of pay what the self serve says and leave or go elsewhere and potentially spend more. I bit my tongue and took the hit. Wasn't happy.
Have you tried complaining to Tesco? Scan/photocopy your receipt and type up a letter of complaint - make sure you include the bit about the girl being useless and how much of your valuable time they wasted. They usually send a voucher/giftcard and apology letter.0 -
Dory - I may need to start doing that, I do try to get little android apps on my phone to log my spending and eating, the problem is half the time you forget to, or your battery dies. I do think you are more inclined to write things down if you carry a pad around so I'll give that a go too and update the electronic stuff at the days end
Carolyn - Sadly I didn't keep the receipt, I rarely do with cash transactions, but I'll certainly bear that in mind for future reference. Guess the big chains like to keep their customers happy
Well its been a little while since I last updated so I'll start with spends
Thursday - £20 on petrol. Loaded up today for the journey to Norfolk. I always try to do this the night before to avoid the friday post work queues at Tesco
Friday - £35 on the oyster. Decide walking back to the train station to top up my card, taking care of work journey until the month end. I shouldn't need to top up until October now
Saturday - £25. I put another £15 in the tank and the OH also stuffs a score in. I have a bit of a drive to the speeding course and take hte missus around the shops for a few bits. She also buys diinner for the rest of us. I chip in my share of £10 as is only right
Sunday - nothing bar 99p for a can of monster to accompany the drive back to the big smoke
Monday - Wheels fell off a bit today. Had a ticket to go see Jim Jeffries live (bought previously and completely forgotten about until I got the text through from one of my pals), and to be fair, the offensive Aussie that makes Mr Boyle look like a !!!!!cat was on top form. A good laugh well needed. What wasn't needed was breaking the beer ban. Not a heavy night by any means but it also shows how long its been since I went to the theatre. I get a round in, and get stung for EIGHTEEN nicker, not even proper pints, CANS of Carlsberg! Pride, and Wallet, taken a real punch in the proverbials.
Tuesday What started as a good day ended with my absent mindedness letting me down again. I had a doctors appointment, chat about a few things, medication changing, blood tests etc. Anyway I'll save you the details but I asked him about something....a little nasty that was worrying me. Fungal infection he said at a glance. Prescribed some cream but havent bought it yet so thats another £7.90 gone when I do. On top of that, i leave my sandwiches in the surgery, only realising when I get to work. So on top of his doctors salary he gets a free !!!!!!! chicken sandwich! Roast from the previous night! Not a happy man. So I wander down to sainsburys to feed myself but refuse to spend any more than necessary. Pick up some Pitta Bread and a pot of Houmous. Costs me a mere £1.05. Damage limitation is done and I feel a little bit smug until I realise how much I would have loved that sarnie. It was on the grainy bread with bits in it too, and I put a little bit of Cranberry in it too...
Right I'm making myself hungry so I'm gonna grab a snack and catch the rest of Montpellier v Arsenal

good luck with your journey lashley - you seem to be determined enough and u remind me of my boyf with all the footie talk! u should find an ameteur team to support - they cost nothing to watch! my oh is the goalie for his team (he's 36 and a bit past it now but not willing to accept it!) and even i can get quite into it (i was a bit of an embarrasing WAG on saturday though, shouting at the ref!) i love getting all wrapped up on a saturday and the smell of deep heat and the hurling of abuse!
i'm sure you'll ditch the payday loans super quick.

Keep going lashley!
One thought.. is your oyster registered? Just if youre topping up biggish chunks you need to make sure if you lost it it was traceable! I Think you can register it online..
how are you doing with the payday loans? Been able to clear any yet (I dont really know how they work sorry if this is a silly question! well done for the damage limitation with the pitta bread though! Maybe you could do this more often as it makes for a cheap lunch!?
With your friends and being tied into rounds etc, do you think you would be able to explain to them that you are in a bit of a financial pickle at the moment and trying to sort yourself out but this means you have to buy your own drinks (and maybe soft drinks/less drinks) and maybe can't spend so much when you go out etc? they should understand then you wont feel so much of the social pressures.. or you could suggest cheaper activities (watch the game at home with a few beers rather than go to the pub etc?) just an idea!0 -
Olivia - Nothing wrong with a lady that likes her footie
Out of interest who does ya fella play for? I go to the lower leagues myself (won't mention club allegiances here yet) But I haven't been to see them yet this season, I also didn't renew my season ticket as part of the plan towards getting free of this debt. I do agree though going down to amateur games not only gives your local boys a boost, its good for the grass roots game and you never know you might see the next Dennis Bergkamp there
Tink - Its a good thing you mentioned registering the Oyster, my last one was, but I lost that (when it was empty luckily) and I haven't done so with this one yet. I will do that this lunch time. I do need to make more of an effort not to get involved in rounds when out though, as I do tend to drink a lot less if I stick to myself, I usually by my own when I go darts and thats the majority of my evenings out, only the footie hurts really. Just need to show a bit of strength and backbone really
So hows the rest of the week gone, well Wednesday was a good spend free day. All I'll say about that is if you see the Heinz Chicken Curry tinned soup about, well its tastes about as much of chicken curry as dog food does sirloin steak. Not the greatest pick up from home in the world
Thursday - £7.95. Got taken to the darts league meeting, I drew the short straw for attending (fun and games that was, these things are a real waste of life with some of these blokes arguing and bickering over the most petty of things). I buy the fella that took me a drink as a thank you and have a few games to pass the evening by. Another quiet one
Today - So far £1.32 so change really. Once again picked up a soup from home (and stuck to more traditional a flavouring). Thought I'd make my friday treat a bread roll with it. Turned down a lunch trip to the pub for my good deed to my wallet. That should be it for the day really as nothing planned later. Going to meet the OH at the train station after the work as she's down my way this weekend, and mother dearest is doing up a spag bol so probably a night of that and trivial pursuit (I rule at general knowledge, I will be modest about most things yet shamelessly profess that my head just has this tendency to retain useless nonsense that only has any real use at a pub quiz)
With payday coming up a week today its soon time to assess what debt to take out first. And to be fair, to go through that list and scrutinise whats owed once again and review my hit list priorities.
Til then

i love to see the lower league teams do well lashley! we're in west central scotland so u can imagine where the majority of footie support goes up here! i hate it when u see supporters buses from aberdeen or dundee coming all the way down to support one of the old firm teams :-( in my humble opinion (which is not worth alot) they are the reason why the national team are totally rank rotten! too much spending on foreign players in the past and ignoring the up and coming young home grown players! ah well this is why a certain old firm team are in the mess they are! maybe now there is less money around they will have to rely on the young 'uns :-) we go to our local footie ground now and again (a wee team called airdrie united - 2nd division - 15 bucks a time to get in!!) boyf plays for a team in the west of scotland amateur league - but even that can be pricey when u count up the boots, money for training that they have to pay, the after game drinks, the fundraising nights for the team, gloves (£35 per pair!!) but it keeps him busy and he takes it soooo seriously!
well done on the body swerve of the pub lunch - it's good u like soup! i'm just not a fan of soup or sandwiches for some reason and tins of soup are well cheap too! - i'd rather have 3 weetabix for lunch!
enjoy the trivia

Ahh The Diamonds right? Yeah I heard of them, how are they doing. I go down Leyton Orient myself, Arsenal fan first but they are pretty much my local side so have been going there for a fair few years now. A ticket is 23 quid on the door though! I don't play myself, I was never much cop at the game. I prefer darts and pool myself, save my lungs for shouting at the boys

Well luckily its been a low spend weekend. I accompanied the OH to an appointment of hers and as she was in for a while (and we were a little way away) I treated myself to a brekkie and a pint totalling £8.75 but that has been my only outlay! Went to see Biffy Clyro last night at the itunes festival, the tickets, as comp winners, were free and they were absolutely immense (as to be expected)! And got right to the front too! As well as that its honestly the first time I can remember that I've been at a rock gig and not had a fair few sherberts down me neck. The missus got us both a bite in while there and that it[STRIKE]PDL1 £1020.88/£1020.88[/STRIKE]P2P £1274.60/£1537.63 PDL2 £175/£350 PDL3 0/£259 PDL4 £189.77/£503.92 PDL5 0/£194.25 Cd1 £987.20/£1000 Cd2 £725.38/£750 Cd3 £286.69/£300[STRIKE]Zebra £325.80/£325.80[/STRIKE]CF £398.85/£1305 OD £793.37#321 TOTAL £3735.63/£8639.85 by 1/4/13Clear by April Fools for being a Fool, falling back into old ways0 -
With my ears still ringing from the Biffy Clyro gig a quick update to say a successful no spend day for me

However there will be one on the horizon. With the downpour we've suffered today I've noticed a hole in my work shoes, so thats on the shopping list for the weekend. My OH pointed out that they have lasted about 5 months, my scope of time is really out of sync as I thought I'd bought them more recently. A minor gripe
I've boxed up some cous cous for tomorrow lunch and will be off without my wallet to keep me out the local shop. All in all an uneventful day with a good outcome, more of the same eh Lash I'm telling myself
