New vacuum cleaner, Miele, Henry or Bosch?

I am looking into getting a new vacuum cleaner.

Requirements are

cylinder
Good for pet hair

Would prefer a bagless if poss, but not too concerned.

Not sure about budget, <£150 I guess, but I do want a good one!

The Henry seems the best bet, but I am not keen on it's looks.

Any good deals about at the moment?

  • As the owner of two permanently malting Basset Hounds and two cats, I wouldn't go with a cylinder vac because it needs the upright's brushes to pull the hairs from the carpet - suction alone isn't good enough (our Henry has been demoted to car/garage duty). There are brushing floor attachments you can get but as they rely on the suction power to drive them I never found them satisfactory. We now have a 5-year old Dyson DC04 which is used at least twice a day and still removes every hair from the main rooms' carpets - we have laminate in the porch, hall, kitchen & dog's room - recommended with any pets. Keep an eye out at Makro (if you have/know someone with a card) - they occasionally have the DC07 going for £99+vat.

Does anyone has any views on Bosch Pro-Hygienic? I like the sound of possibility to use it with floor wipes. I heard that Bosch vacuum cleaners are usually good and wandered if anyone has this one and what are the experiences.

I love my Miele and the power is incredible, they should last 20 years so they say (only another 18 years to go then)
No Matter what you do there will be critics.
  • We have a Henry, and cat that drops more than a barbers shop in overdrive mode. Not keen on the looks but it is stuck in a cupboard so no problem. Impressed with it been doing some renovations to house so poor old henry has to swallow the debris associated with that kind of work. As for the bag, we don't bother with one , just empty the it in to the bin.

I've got a Miele Cat and Dog, and it's fantastic for sucking up the masses of hair that two border collies leave behind. It's a cylinder, but the suction on it is amazing - just about lifts the carpet off the floor! You can get the room done in minutes and I'm very pleased with it. Highly recommended.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Im another Miele convert. Its so much better than my Dyson (had two of them) and its lighter too. Suction is brilliant and you can turn down the suction too. Wish I had bought it years ago! It copes really well with three heavy shedding dogs and a cat :)

another make you may consider is a bissell, i have one and it is better than the dyson and henry we have, also another reason is, i found there customer service amazing when i first bought it from macro after a few weeks had not really used it as was doing a lot of diy in my house at the time it did not suck up as it has a power switch on it to put the brushes on. anyway phoned up bissell and they said take it back to macro and they will change it after i had took it there and they said no if any problems get them to phone us and we will talk to them. anyway to cut it short macro still said no but bissell sent a driver out the next day with a new one and took the old one away no questions, i just thought i would share this with you as the customer service was the best i ever had.
