Directionless - where to go?

I'm 27, and currently in a going nowhere admin job with my local authority.

I know there is little chance of career progression and to be fair I am getting tired of doing admin work and sick of doing the menial tasks in my jobs which will go against me in applying for jobs.

I fancy returning to study, but the fees put me off and don't think I can afford too as I feel there will be little to no support financially and who can trust the government?

The thing is, where do I turn? I don't want to be stuck in this job any longer and fancy a change?

What shall I do?

You could make an appointment for careers advice from a Nextstep Adviser who could help you to decide your aims and how to achieve them.

have you anything in mind? depending on what you are looking at there's always the OU, if it's nursing you have bursaries, teaching assistant courses are cheap as chips compared to the cost of uni or other FE, some places like the probation service pay for your studies while you work
Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

  • I would either like to work in finance or with people like a community worker or adult education. Is there any way to do this cheaply? 2012 is a year I want to make changes.
