Employer wont pay expenses whilst on a work trip!

Hi all ,

my employer wants me to go course in London which means leaving on a sunday noon and returning tuesday night!

they will pay the hotel and train/travel costs however im there for 2 and a half days and they wont pay for any food or drink! I think this is totally unfair. im away FOR WORK and im going to be majorly out of pocket!

If i was in work i would have my breakfast at home bring packed lunch and cook tea... which will cost alot less than having to eat at least 2 meals out. ( hotel not self catering!)

do any other employees have this problem??How can i get them to change their minds?

x

    1. Book a hotel with breakfast included and fill yer boots
    2. Does the course provide lunch?
    3. Buy your dinner in Sainsbury's - this will be your only expense and really not likely to be much more than it would be at home. Eat it on a park bench if you're worried about sneaking it into the hotel (although I've never had a problem doing it).

Did they give a reason for not covering meals ....Or when they say hotel bills is it possible the breakfast and evening meal would be covered by just sticking them on the bill ?

no they simply wont do it :( i have to put them all on my card (ie book the hotel etc) then give the full invoice and receipts to them when i get back and they give me back the money. so if i tried to slip breakfast in the hotel on they would just not reimburse me for it ... :( x

Normally a business booking for a hotel will include a breakfast, check this out.

Re the other issues, I'd be declining to attend (unless its a contractual area).

Ask why they're being precious over your welfare?

Inform them you have personal issues and can't afford it - or you don't have a card that will stand that much debit and to put it on the employers account/ credit card -'kin reptiles.

  • As it's training and you are getting something out of it; I'd suck it up.

Breakfast - find a bakers nearby
Lunch - you can get sandwich fillers and a baguette for less than £3...from a nearby supermarket
Dinner - 3 minute noodles with a sauce [you can put gravy granules and curry powder into pots at home for the sauce] plus a drink - 3 minute noodles are about 12p each so 2 of those you could eat for 50p a night. Add the rest of the baguette and a yogurt...you should be sorted.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
