Bright 'white' headlights for my car?

Can i change the headlight bulbs on Mrsbritishboys Audi A4 (2003 model)? Ones gone pop anyway, so thought might upgrade them while Im at it, is it a simple plug out and pluge new bulb in job? And if so, wheres best to get uprated ones?

Thanks in advance

The most popular seem to be either the Philips ones, forget the name, or the Halfords "Extreme Brilliance", both of them are pretty good. Another option is the Osram Nightbreaker but the lifetime on those tends to be rather short, some would say they live up to their name quite well.

FWIW, I put a set of the Halfords ones in my car in early 2009 and they still work. I think they were £18 each but they usually have a 2 for 1 offer on. I wouldn't normally recommend Halfords for anything but they really aren't bad.

Changeover should be simple, but check first, Audi do sometimes like to make them difficult to reach.
  • Have a look on autobulbsdirect.co.uk. Lots of choice there. I would recommend the Osram nightbreakers. They are nice and bright and make a big difference.

I ended up buying them from Amazon market place as they were about £10 cheaper.

Also, make sure the lights are aligned correctly and regularly clean the lens glass. Both can make a huge difference.

Cheers guys will take a look, are all H7 bulbs same fitment? The ones currently in the Audi are H7's, so does that mean as long as I get H7's they'll fit in OK?

    Cheers

Pretty much yes. All makes of bulbs have slight manufacturing variances, they will physically fit just fine but you may have to align your headlights afterwards as the beam cut off could end up slightly higher or slightly lower after you change the bulbs.

Does anyone else think that car headlights are getting too bright now? Sure, it may help the driver of the car with them, but what about everyone else. I seem to be getting increasingly dazzled by oncoming cars with ridiculously bright headlights. I thought at first it was some illegal aftermarket bulbs but new cars straight out of the factory seem to be just as much to blame (I'm talking about dipped beam, not the full beam). Audi in particular stands out.

What you're seeing there is HIDs which are not what the OP is talking about. Plenty of threads about them on this forum.

I find a lot of the time it's not the bulbs but the alignment being out, that causes the problem with some cars.

I find the new mini's to be particularly bad. Their lights seem to shine in completely different areas, with one pointing way up in the air and the other very low. Large 4x4s are also a problem too where by the height of the car means the lights are already directly in line with the rear window of car in front. They should be angled downward to avoid blinding you in the rear view mirror.

Do these come as standard on some cars or are you talking about a chav accessory? On the whole I've no problem with proper xenons but so many new cars seem too bright.

More and more cars are now coming with them fitted as standard. Both my car and Mrs G's car have them.
