this is a lady who used her slow cooker every day for a year. there are some crazy recipies but lots of good ones. Also has present ideas like roasted nuts.
You could try the library for cookbooks?0 -
hi thankyou very much phoolgirl for the crockpot blog link its v inspiring! Ive just got a slow cooker, and in the crockpot365 blog she has even baked banana bread in a loaf tin in the slow cooker! pretty amazed I think I might give it a go as I am terrible at baking in an oven lol...
oh and in answer to OP's question, I look at the slow cooker thread on here....and I like easyliving.co.uk for recipes some very nice pasta dishes and trendy stuff.
for 'homely' cooking I like 'the good granny cookbook' by Jane fearnely whittingstall. (chillies, spag bol, pot roasts etc)
I borrow cookbooks from the library, take a photo (use macro setting for close up) of the pages I like, put it on my computer and I have a folder with the jpeg photos of recipe pages in.
I find I usually only find a few recipes per book that I would realistically make, what with fussy kids and lack of time0 -
Websites I use are BBC Good Food, Food network (the US one), Waitrose and the Australian Taste site.
I also buy far too many books and magazines (I buy Olive and Delicious every month).
Fave books are Jamie Oliver (I prefer the Cook one) and Bill Granger as his recipes seem more unusual. However, I do also love my more reference books such as my Larousse Gastronimique, Complete Robuchon, Silver Spoon and Vefa's kitchen.0 -
I love the Sainsburys monthly magazine, this is where most of my recipes come from for my weekly food plan.
I also like the free weekly "newspaper" you get in Waitrose jsut before the weekend. Their posh receipes are always lovely and the daily "cheap" meals are usually pretty tasty too.
I also use the BBC website for posh dinner party food, it seems to be really good for that kind of thing.
I go through a lot of recipes, we tend to try at least 3 new receipes each week0 -
I like cooks like Nigel Slater and they tend to give you ideas rather than being rigid about things. I remember in his series he kept saying things like "... if you don't like x, you can substitute y or any other favourite vegetable", " ...any bits in the fridge that need using up..." . Although some of his recipes use expensive ingredients, he definitely using OS principles.
When we got engaged in the early 80s, we were given Madhur Jaffrey's first Indian cookery book, and that is my favourite cookery book of all time - again she recommends substitutes and ideas of how to make a receipe your own. In fact, you can struggle to read some of the receipes as the pages are so stained and well used!
