:jAfter the last 7 years of trying to clear debts via debt counselers etc our biggest debt to Lloyds tsb of £24,816.00 is about to be cleared.
I was fortunate to be in a position to offer them £5,000.00 to which they accepted staright away and the 19,816 to be written off.
This is wonderful news and means our total debts of just under £60,000 is now down to less than £7,000.
I was able to make offers on nearly all our debts leaving ust under £7000 to clear this year which means 2013 starts debt free

Well done that's lovely news. I also had a good start to the year. I had 5 catalogue accounts all with less than £200 owing on each but 2 of them were charging 44.9% so decided to set myself a challenge and pay these off first giving myself 1 month per catalogue.
Had a run of luck on ebay and cleared 3 within 2 weeks. Only have 2 left now with £102 on one and £109 on the other!
Credit card next £882. I managed to wangle a good % deal from 23.9 to 15.9 and also cancelled the ppi that was there and I never asked for.
Once that's gone, I will be debt free!!!!0 -

That's a lot written off. Make sure you get it in writing that says the accounts are fully settled. I believe it's been known for companies to accept a settlement figure but the accounts only show "partially settled". I think i'm right in saying this but happy to be corrected if i'm wrong.DFD: 21st June 20120

Hi
We are in a similar position trying to settle with our creditors. I have researched so much my head is spinning and there does seem to be grey areas. However we have just settled 2 of 3 debts and have had to accept 'partially settled' will go on our credit file BUT the balance will be nil.
We had to negotiate to make sure we had wording saying that we wouldn't be chased for the remainder by them or any other company etc.
We settled at approx 55% but only been n the DMP since July 2010 so are happy with that.
The last creditor Tesco WILL NOT negotiate at all though:(DMP mutual support member 3970 -
Hopefully with all the others settled, you should be in a position to knock off the last (Tesco) debt much more quickly. Don't let the fact they wont settle knock you off track.Like all revolutions, guerrilla goodness begins slowly, with a single act. Let it be yours.
