CV review or advice

I need to update my CV and would like some professional advice. Are there any free services or good offers I can look up?

Comments

  • I used a service online recently (sorry can't remember their name, may have been The CV Centre). I found their free review to be pretty much a waste of time, just told me to remove "curriculum vitae" from the top as it was outdated. Other than that it was incredibly vague and pushed for me to pay them to do a more comprehensive review. They're not cheap.

Maybe try asking some friends in the field to see their CV's / look up examples online and adapt them before forking out? I have helped people on twitter asking for CV advice & others have helped me too, so might be worth investigating?
  • Google "example CV's" and you should find a lot of good examples or try some university careers service sites (Kent uni is good) they can't review your CV but there is a lot of help and guides on the web. Newspapers also have a ton of useful stuff too. Try the guardian.
Get your friends to review it visually and for content. Ask a few because they will all think slightly different things about layout and font size, then take the best ideas and create a brilliant CV. You don't need those expensive services.
There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.

I don't think there is a 'free CV check' service on the web yet. You may want to look at websites such as CV Tips or CV Plaza who provide cv examples and cv templates that you can easily get ideas from. Or post your CV (privately) on The Student Room where they provide free CV checking, done by fellow forum members.
