Booking fees for theatre tickets

Can anyone explain to me why theatres charge you a booking fee? I can go to Tesco and buy something or a few pounds, using my debit card and just pay the cost of the goods but if I spend £25 on some tickets I also have to pay a "booking" fee. Why? Aren't they making enough on the tickets - and if it is mandatory, why not just include it in the price. Going back to the Tesco analogy, if I bought groceries worth £25, they don't say "oh yes and there is a trolley fee sir, that will be £28.50"

Love to hear if anybody has any justification for the booking fee.
