Unregistering self employment

My hubby worked self employed for a few years and then moved to employed status with the same company. He has never bothered to become unregistered as self employed , so is still paying class 2 NIC. I have been filling in 0 income in the self employed section of his tax return for the past few years.
They wont speak to me on the phone, so its up to him to do it. Anyway, I am going to force him to sort it - when is the earliest he can say he stopped becoming self employed - is it just since the date of the last tax return, or can he say it was the date he became employed (which is when it was).
There are a LOT of class 2 NIC being paid over this period, and there has been no refund of them from the tax returns i have submitted for him. Is there any chance of reclaiming these now?

A lot of Class 2 NIC? Its £2.50 a week or £130 a year, hardly a lot of money.
Anyway, phone the self employment helpline at HMRC and just tell them you're no longer self employed. He can say whatever date he wishes. The Class 2 NIC won't get refunded AFAIK but will count towards State Pension so will fill in some of those years where he was unemployed if he was.0
