My ex and i split up last year, and she has now decided she would like her name taken off the mortgage.
We requested the paperwork from NRAM, filled it and sent it back. As the payment had always come out of my bank account (for the last 5 years) and also as she has not lived in the property for the last year, we thought there would be no problems.
Received a letter back from NRAM saying 'due to my circumstances, they could not offer the mortgage unless i reduce it from £84,000 to 32,000, or got a guaranteur/second name on the deeds.
The house is valued at 79,000 - 80,000, and at a push, i could get together 7 or 8K from family to put down as deposit for a mortgage with another provider. The thing is, all searches have turned up a blank so far.
I find it rather upsetting that i could be forced to lose my home, even though i can pay for it with no problems.
Does anybody have any advice on what i could do? NRAM suggested leaving my ex's name on their system, which would mean the mortgage is still valid. Not sure how she would take that though
Many thanks for your help,
S

Update:
NRAM were totally unhelpful, saying that unless the mortgage could be lowered to £32,000 then they cannot remove the other person's name. The house was valued at less than originally thought, so the money needed to swap would be nearer £15,000, which i don't have a hope of finding. Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do? Someone mentioned that Experian can remove a name from such things in these situations, without me losing the house, is this true?0
