You have been a victim of identity theft - so you will need to report it to the Police.

Once Providen believe its ID theft they hsould back off.

Can they tell you where the money went? i.e into which bank account?

From what I gather an agent went to the house, docs were signed, they claim ID was shown although photo ID was not required and they have no note of what exactly was shown, cash was handed over. They tell me no payment was ever made on the account.

As I used to go to work at 730am and get back around 8pm I assume I was only given my post after it had been filtered by whoever got the loan.

All I know is I certainly didnt sign the loan agreement and I have never had the money. They have offered a payment of half the debt in order to have it settled. I dont want to but this may be my best option to resolve this quickly

No, Provident have been the victims of an 'identity theft'. It is they who need to report it to the police.

Well technically OP is a victim of ID theft and Provident are a victim of fraud.

They can both report it to the Police.

As far as the OP goes it will be worth reporting it because he can then use the crime number to get provident off his back as they may not believe him otherwise. It will also be handy incase the same person has taken out other accounts in his name
  • Do I have to wait for Provident to finish their investigation or can I have the entries on my credit report removed while I wait?? I could really do with buying a car on HP and waiting 2 months isnt really an option. I have added a notice of correction to my credit report but I'm not sure how much of a difference this will make
  • Does anyone know about having this removed from my credit file while I am waiting for Provident to sort it?

Sending them a copy of your real signature was not a good idea .

You can raise a dispute to the credit reference agencies that are reporting the account, You'll need to attach all correspondence you've had with provident to help them in their investigations.

Only deal with this matter directly through Provident, Debt Collection Agencies are powerless (The postman has more power then a debt collection agency), Ignore all correspondence from any third parties, Regardless if they offer you a 50% settlement etc etc they'll get you to accept liability then string you for more money.

You're best off contacting the police if you suspect someone has taken out credit in your name, open up a dispute with the credit agencies as well.
